DESCRIPTION
Oil on prepared paper mounted on cardboard mounted on canvas in artist frame | 2020
Rives Granade’s recent paintings from 2020 mark a shift from flat, hyper realistic, and synthetic paintings to decidedly expressive abstractions, using thick impasto to bring surreal dreamscapes to life. Through his free flowing and spiraling gestures inspired by nature, Granade builds up the canvas with vibrantly colored oil paints as a means to express and explore dreams, language, memories, play, and misunderstanding.
