A newly released sculpture from Gabrielle Teschner’s earliest compositions referencing wood joinery, "In Place” draws comparison between structural objects and the process of structuring knowledge—the stacking of information reliably and incrementally onto sturdy foundations.
Drawn to the edges of buildings and the vanishing line where they meet with the sky, raw cloth is painted and sewn together in an arrangement emulating a “lap joint”. The process of constructing the fabric sculpture itself causes the picture to fragment, misalignments which work to disintegrate its logic.
She says, “[In Place] is the unhurried assembly of cloudy vapors that give rise to an impression."
