Stop Taking It Seriously
Acrylic on Canvas
Ali Pilli’s practice centers on the intuitive construction of layered surfaces, working with washes of paint and chalk to create compositions that reflect both the visible nuances of lived experience and the more intangible qualities of the inner self. Pilli's paintings move fluidly between subtlety and boldness, often described as an “elevated tie-dye,” where color and texture unfold in soft, atmospheric gradients. Through this process, each canvas becomes a site of accumulation and sensation, balancing immediacy with a sense of quiet depth.
Through a serene yet playfully constructed color field language, Pilli invites viewers into moments of psychological transcendence, where stillness and sensory experience coexist. The work engages the glamour of memory, exploring how the past lingers through light, color, and atmosphere. Drawing on elements of retro nostalgia, cinematic softness, and evolving notions of femininity, beauty, and power, Pilli's paintings evoke a suspended emotional space that feels both familiar and elusive.
